STOP Using P2P Programs
Dear All,
This post is for who are using their own laptop computer and other mobile devices at TIS. We have found out that someone are running some peer 2 peer downloading programs calls VUZE and eMule , etc.. I need to tell you guys that. These programs are TOP claim to be used inside the school area. It is causing a serious issue to the TIS computer network. It will make lot of security holes to make an entrance the outsider (i.e. ethical hacker) to invite them to destroy our network and also (reduce and limit) the (speed and bandwidth) to the entire network. If you are compunction then listen to me "STOP IT".
The main users are being affected are principals and all the homeroom teachers and all mobile device users.
Please and I am begging you all to stop doing this if you are using it or going to try it.
We need your help to make our school tidy and beautiful.
Thank you for your cooperation .
Best regards,
Michael Vu IT Staff

Mobile Laptops Carts - Signout Procedures
Hi all Recently, one laptop went missing. There is very little chance we could get it back. We find that some mobile car users do not strictly follow what Mr. Stribbell mentioned last year. The enclosed e-mail is your review. Hope everyone takes a minute to read it again. The issues we found up to now are: 1. Some mobile carts users do NOT fill in the Mobile Lab Sign Out Form; 2. Some Sign Out Form is NOT complete and accurate; 3. Do NOT make a laptop count before and after borrowing the cart; 4. In this year, teachers would like to share the mobile cart with other teachers. Students from other class do NOT fill-in the sign out form for keeping a record of laptop in and out within the cart.
Laptops are expensive assets of our school. We can't afford to lose laptops from time to time. We need everyone's effort to protect our assets. Thank you for kind attention.
Best regards Kenneth Lau

Wiki vs Firefox
Dear All Staff,
We found out that there is an issue to use Firefox to edit some pages of the Wiki.
Can you edit the wiki page on the Safari internet browser instead of Firefox please?
The program is either on your dock or in the Application folder.
The program icon is looking like this as below.

Regards,
Michael

TIS Webmail message cannot be sent to Hotmail accounts
Our TIS Webmail server uses CTM SMTP server for outgoing mails. We found that all the mails sending to Hotmail are bounced back.
Kenneth has reported to CTM this problem this morning. It seems that CTM SMTP server is now rejected by Microsoft Hotmail server. CTM is now investigating the problem. The problem happens only to Hotmail recipients.
If you would like to send messages to Hotmail clients, please either sign up a Hotmail account, or ask him/her to provide another email address which is not a Hotmail account.

Please DO NOT use peer to peer (P2P) downloading software at school

We have found that some of our staff who are using Windows laptops may slow down our network. After we look closely on those personal Windows laptops, an application called eMule or VeryCD (電驢, 电驴 in Chinese) is running. eDonkey, eMule or VeryCD is a peer to peer (P2P) software for downloading Music or Videos.
Please DO NOT use P2P downloading software in school. Even though you are not downloading stuff from the internet, the software is still running on background. It keeps uploading your harvests and sharing them to others who are also using the same P2P software over the Internet. Almost all our upstream bandwidth will then occupied by such P2P software.
In Macau, upstream bandwidth are narrow. If it is fully occupied, everybody in school will experience very slow internet. We have asked them to shutdown their laptops from now.
